Delhi, 26 November (H.S.): Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Wednesday described the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) as a vital pillar of nation-building, founded on the principles of merit, transparency, and integrity.

Inaugurating the commission's Centenary Conference in New Delhi, he lauded its 100-year journey as a era-defining chapter in India's democratic and administrative evolution.

In his address, Mr. Birla stated that the institution has inspired millions of young Indians to dedicate themselves to public service through a system rooted in meritocracy and ethical values. He emphasized that as India advances towards its goal of becoming a developed and inclusive nation by 2047, the role of the UPSC becomes even more critical. He praised the commission for setting new benchmarks in governance by adapting its selection processes to be more advanced and scientific amidst the challenges of the digital age and artificial intelligence.

The Speaker highlighted that by providing equal opportunities to talent from diverse social and geographical backgrounds, the UPSC has strengthened India's vibrant democratic fabric.

This glorious journey of a hundred years is not merely an administrative history, but an indelible saga of UPSC's unique contribution to governance, development, and public service delivery across the country, he remarked, adding that it has reinforced public trust in India's administrative systems.

He expressed confidence that the centenary year would infuse the commission with new energy and resolve for the coming decades. Mr. Birla asserted that the institution will continue to cultivate generations of public servants who will act as powerful agents of nation-building, realizing the vision of a developed, innovative, and globally leading India.The event was also attended by Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh and other dignitaries.

Dr. Ajay Kumar, Chairman of the UPSC, delivered the welcome address and extended congratulations to all past and present members and staff of the commission.
