26 Nov (HS): With the aim of combating malnutrition and improving the economic
condition of farmers, a one day training and demonstration programme on
sustainable cultivation of Moringa and products made from Moringa leaves for
value addition and product development was successfully organised under the
ongoing project at SHUATS under Uttar Pradesh Council of Science and Technology
to improve the social and economic condition of farmers.
The
programme was conducted by the Principal Investigator of the project, Prof. Dr.
Devi Singh, and Co-Principal Investigators, Prof. Dr. C. John Wesley and
Deepanshi. Chief Guest Director Prof. SD McCarthy encouraged the farmers for
sustainable cultivation of Moringa. The
program was highlighted by the active participation of successful farmers from
various blocks of Prayagraj—such as Arun Tiwari, Ramnath Patel, and Abhishek
Kumar. These farmers gained firsthand experience in moringa production and
marketing techniques and showed keen interest in adopting them in the future.
The presence of women entrepreneurs made the training even more effective and
inspiring.
In
this one day program, the Principal Investigator of the project, Co-Principal
Investigator and Dr. Kamini Singh, Founder of Dr. Moringa Private Limited,
provided complete information to the farmers about sustainable cultivation of
Moringa, its medicinal value and the products made from it and also provided
training and demonstration in the Moringa orchard and provided detailed
information on advanced cultivation techniques of Moringa, production of
products from leaves and pods, market demand, value addition and entrepreneurship
possibilities. The participants benefited immensely from their presentation in
understanding Moringa based startup and marketing model.
