
Delhi, 26 November (H.S.): President Droupadi Murmu, addressing the nation on Constitution Day, lauded several landmark government decisions, stating that measures such as the abolition of triple talaq, the implementation of GST, the abrogation of Article 370, and the enactment of the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam have provided new impetus to social justice, economic integration, and women-led development in the country.
The ceremony, held in the Central Hall of the Samvidhan Sadan (Old Parliament House), was marked by the President's release of a digital version of the Constitution in nine languages.
The event was attended by a host of dignitaries, including Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, and Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi.
Together, they led the collective reading of the Preamble to the Constitution.In her address, President Murmu described the Constitution as a guiding document that encourages the nation to shed its colonial mindset and embrace a nationalistic ethos. She emphasized that the framers of the Constitution held the protection of individual and democratic rights as paramount. It is because of this, she noted, that women, youth, Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, farmers, the middle class, and the neo-middle class are strengthening our democracy today.
The President also highlighted the milestone of lifting 250 million people out of poverty as one of the nation's most significant achievements.
Constitution Day is observed annually on November 26 to commemorate the day in 1949 when the Constituent Assembly of India formally adopted the Constitution in the very same Central Hall.
