New Delhi, 26 November (H.S.): Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate a cutting-edge aircraft engine servicing facility on Wednesday, a landmark development in India's pursuit of self-reliance (Aatmanirbharta) in the aviation sector. The Safran Aircraft Engine Services India (SAESI) facility, located in Hyderabad's GMR Aerospace and Industrial Park, will be unveiled via video conferencing at 10 AM.

This inauguration marks a pivotal moment, as it is the first time a global original equipment manufacturer (OEM) has established a Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) operation in India. The facility is dedicated to servicing LEAP engines, which power the widely used Airbus A320neo and Boeing 737 MAX aircraft fleets.

Developed with an initial investment of approximately ₹1,300 crore, the state-of-the-art facility spans 45,000 square meters. It is engineered to service up to 300 LEAP engines annually and is projected to create over 1,000 highly skilled jobs for Indian technicians and engineers by the time it reaches full capacity in 2035.

The establishment of this MRO hub represents a significant stride toward fortifying India's domestic aviation ecosystem. By developing indigenous MRO capabilities, the nation aims to reduce foreign exchange outflows, enhance supply-chain resilience, and position itself as a global aviation hub.

This initiative is supported by government policies, including the MRO Guidelines 2021 and rationalized GST structures, designed to foster a robust environment for the sector's growth.
