Delhi, 26 November (H.S.): The Delhi High Court on Wednesday issued a notice to the Central Government in response to a petition filed by British academic and author Nitasha Kau. Kaul is challenging the government's decision to deny her entry into India and subsequently revoke her Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) status.

.Justice Sachin Datta has directed the Centre to submit its response within four weeks . The next hearing in the matter has been scheduled for January 28, 2026 .The legal challenge follows an incident on February 24, 2024, when Professor Kaul was denied entry upon her arrival at Bengaluru airport . She had been invited by the government of Karnataka to speak at a conference on the Constitution and National Unity .

Despite possessing a valid UK passport, she was detained for approximately 24 hours before being deported .In May 2025, the Central Government officially revoked Kaul's OCI status, accusing her of participating in anti-India activities. The order alleged that her speeches and written works were detrimental to India's sovereignty.

Kaul's petition argues that these actions were taken without a legal or factual basis and violate principles of natural justice.A Kashmiri Pandit by origin, Nitasha Kaul is a Professor of Politics and International Relations at the University of Westminster in the UK.

She is an alumna of Delhi's Shri Ram College of Commerce and holds a PhD in Economics and Philosophy from the UK. Her academic work includes writings on Kashmir, nationalism, and Hindutva. Notably, she had previously testified before a US congressional committee regarding human rights in Kashmir following the abrogation of Article 370.
