New Delhi/Johannesburg, 24 November (H.S.):
Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the third session of the G20 Summit in Johannesburg by making a resounding call for a future centred on inclusive technology and ethical innovation. He urged world leaders to promote critical sectors such as artificial intelligence and critical minerals with a human-centric, open-source, and global approach, instead of one that is merely driven by finance, national interests, or exclusive systems.
PM Modi’s Vision: Technology for All
Speaking on Sunday,PM Modi highlighted India’s leadership in digital infrastructure, noting the nation’s broad participation in digital payments, space technology, and AI as examples of inclusive growth. He emphasized that technology must empower society at large—arguing that digital solutions should be accessible in every language and every region. Citing the India-AI Mission, he outlined efforts to build high-performance computing infrastructure so AI benefits reach every citizen.
Call For a Global Compact on AI
PM Modi called for an international compact on artificial intelligence, grounded in the principles of transparency, robust human oversight, safety-by-design, and the prevention of misuse—especially to counter issues like deepfakes, crime, and terrorism. He warned that without global cooperation, AI risks exacerbating exclusion and insecurity, and called for collaborative innovation to safeguard humanity’s future.
India’s Global Tech Example
