
East Medinipur, 24 November (H.S.): The body of Sheikh Anwar (27), a young man who had returned home from Delhi to fill out an SIR enumeration form and attend to personal work, was recovered from a canal on Monday morning. Four days after his disappearance, his body was found floating in a canal in Gopinathpur area under Bhagwanpur police station.
As per information, Anwar, a resident of the Kutbar Chaukhali area, left home on Thursday, saying he was going to his sister's house. He had been missing since then. The family searched several locations but found no trace of him.
On Monday morning, locals spotted a body floating in the canal. Bhagwanpur police station was immediately informed. The police arrived at the scene, retrieved the body, and sent it for postmortem.
The police said that no injuries were found on the deceased's body. The cause of death will be known only after the postmortem report is received. The police are investigating all aspects.
Anwar's family has expressed suspicions that he may have been murdered, although no FIR has been filed yet.
The police stated that the case is being investigated seriously and the entire sequence of events from the disappearance to the discovery of the body is being pieced together.
