Mamata Banerjee congratulates Justice Surya Kant as India’s New CJI


Kolkata, 24 November (H.S.): West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee congratulated Justice Surya Kant on Monday after he took oath as the 53rd Chief Justice of India (CJI). In a message posted on X (formerly Twitter), the Chief Minister extended her best wishes and expressed confidence in his leadership.

Mamata Banerjee wrote, “Heartiest congratulations to Justice Surya Kant on taking the oath as the 53rd Chief Justice of India! We look forward to his leadership guiding the Indian Judiciary and upholding the pillars of justice, democracy and federalism in India. Jai Hind!”

Justice Surya Kant, a distinguished jurist known for his tenure in the Supreme Court and earlier as Chief Justice of the Himachal Pradesh High Court, assumed office as the head of the Indian judiciary earlier in the day.

Political leaders, legal luminaries and civil society groups across the country have welcomed his appointment, expressing hope that his tenure will strengthen public trust in judicial processes and reinforce constitutional values.
