
New Delhi, 24 November (H.S.): Justice Surya Kant was sworn in as the 53rd Chief Justice of India on Monday during a formal ceremony at the Ganatantra Mandap in Rashtrapati Bhavan. President Droupadi Murmu administered the oath of office and secrecy to the new Chief Justice.
Justice Kant succeeds Justice B.R. Gavai, whose tenure concluded on November 23. As Chief Justice, Justice Kant is set to serve for a term of over 14 months, until February 9, 2027.The solemn event was attended by numerous dignitaries, including Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and Union Minister for Law and Justice Arjun Ram Meghwal.
Following the ceremony, Prime Minister Modi extended his congratulations via a post on the social media platform X, stating, Attended the oath taking ceremony of Justice Surya Kant as the Chief Justice of India. Best wishes to him for his tenure ahead.
