Chennai, 24 November (H.S.) : AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami (EPS) is set to resume his statewide public outreach program, which was stalled by a stampede at a rally in Karur.
The party announced on Sunday that Palaniswami will restart his Makkalai Kaappom, Tamilagathai Meetpom campaign on November 30, choosing a politically significant location for the relaunch: Gobichettipalayam in Erode district.
This location is the traditional stronghold of former minister and nine-time MLA KA Sengottaiyan, who was recently expelled from the party. Political observers view the decision to begin the sixth phase of the tour here as a strategic move by Palaniswami to reassert his control over the region following Sengottaiyan’s removal.
Sengottaiyan, an influential leader, had previously caused a stir by publicly calling for the reunification of all AIADMK factions to ensure victory in the 2026 Assembly elections, remarks that led directly to disciplinary action.
It is expected that Palaniswami will use the Gobichettipalayam meeting to sharply criticize the expelled leader and signal that the party leadership will not entertain calls for unification. Party insiders indicated that efforts would be made to ensure a large turnout of cadres to convey a clear message that the AIADMK remains firmly under the General Secretary’s command, with minimal internal support for readmitting expelled leaders.
Palaniswami is slated to cover the remaining sixty constituencies during this phase of his tour, including those in Chennai. Meanwhile, the AIADMK has also scheduled its general council and executive committee meetings for December 10 in Chennai.
