Shahjahanpur,

24 Nov (HS): Police captured three accused livestock traffickers during an

encounter in Shahjahanpur district on Monday, according to police. Superintendent

of Police Rajesh Dwivedi said a tip-off was received in Khutar that a party of

cattle smugglers was on their way to Barkliganj to butcher animals. When a

police unit arrived at the scene, the smugglers reportedly opened fire,

sparking retaliation, according to the SP. During the exchange, two suspects,

Bhare Khan (45) and Jafar (50), were shot in the legs, according to the

officer. They are receiving treatment in a government hospital. A third person,

Javed alias Kariya, tried to run but was apprehended, he said.

Police

retrieved animal-slaughtering gear from the defendants, and the cattle they had

brought for slaughter were discovered grazing in neighboring fields, according

to Dwivedi. Bhare Khan is facing 21 criminal accusations, while Jafar and Javed

each face 14 counts, including serious allegations, he claimed.
