24 Nov (HS): Police captured three accused livestock traffickers during an
encounter in Shahjahanpur district on Monday, according to police. Superintendent
of Police Rajesh Dwivedi said a tip-off was received in Khutar that a party of
cattle smugglers was on their way to Barkliganj to butcher animals. When a
police unit arrived at the scene, the smugglers reportedly opened fire,
sparking retaliation, according to the SP. During the exchange, two suspects,
Bhare Khan (45) and Jafar (50), were shot in the legs, according to the
officer. They are receiving treatment in a government hospital. A third person,
Javed alias Kariya, tried to run but was apprehended, he said.
Police
retrieved animal-slaughtering gear from the defendants, and the cattle they had
brought for slaughter were discovered grazing in neighboring fields, according
to Dwivedi. Bhare Khan is facing 21 criminal accusations, while Jafar and Javed
each face 14 counts, including serious allegations, he claimed.
