Delhi, 23 November (H.S.): A high-level delegation from India's Ministry of Textiles has concluded a successful visit to Georgia, focusing on enhancing bilateral cooperation in sericulture research, the apparel trade, and the carpet industry.

The visit, which took place from November 17 to 21, also highlighted India's innovative capabilities in the textile sector.A 5-in-1 Silk Stall presented by the delegation garnered significant international attention, showcasing India's rich silk heritage and strong market potential.

AThe delegation was led by P. Sivakumar, who is the Member-Secretary of the Central Silk Board (CSB) and Secretary General of the International Sericulture Commission (ISC).

During the visit, the delegation participated in the 11th BACSA International Conference, ‘CULTUSERI 2025.’ In his inaugural address, Sivakumar underscored India's global leadership in traditional silk knowledge. He also presented a technical paper titled The Chronicles of Wild Silk, while Dr. S. Manthira Murthy, Director (Tech) at CSB, presented research on a bivoltine silkworm hybrid developed through India-Bulgaria cooperation.

The visit included extensive discussions with Georgian universities, sericulture laboratories, research centers, and the Georgian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI). These talks centered on promoting bilateral textile trade and identifying new opportunities for joint research in sericulture.

In meetings with senior Georgian government officials, both sides agreed to identify new areas for collaboration, improve market access, and expand trade in textiles, apparel, carpets, and value-added silk products.
