Dhubri (Assam), 23 November (HS): Dhubri witnessed a massive outpouring of faith on Sunday as the 350th Shaheedi Purab of Shri Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Ji, the ninth Sikh Guru, was commemorated with a majestic Nagar Kirtan that filled the river town with hymns, colours and devotion.

The procession, which began from the revered Dhubri Sahib Gurdwara, moved through the town with traditional kirtan and widespread participation from the Sikh community. Pilgrims from various parts of India as well as several foreign countries joined the event, underscoring the profound spiritual and historical importance of Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Ji’s martyrdom.

Sardar Daljit Singh Sethi, President of the Sikh Pratinidhi Board (Eastern Zone), noted that elaborate preparations had been put in place to ensure a seamless observance. According to him, this year’s participation — estimated between 20,000 and 30,000 pilgrims — reflects the enduring global respect for Guru Sahib’s ideals of sacrifice and humanity.

To accommodate the surge of devotees, special trains were arranged for those travelling to Dhubri, Sethi said, adding that efforts were made to offer pilgrims comfortable travel and suitable lodging.

The day concluded with ardās, devotional music and community service, echoing Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Ji’s timeless teachings of courage, compassion and the defence of religious freedom.
