Chennai, 22 November (H.S.) : The Ministry of Education is set to organise the fourth edition of the Kashi Tamil Sangamam (KTS 4.0), which will commence on December 2. This major cultural event is designed to celebrate and strengthen the deep civilisational, cultural, linguistic, and people-to-people connections between Tamil Nadu and Kashi, reflecting the vision of Ek Bharat Shreshta Bharat as inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Building on the success of the previous three editions since its inception in two thousand twenty-two, the fourth edition aims to further deepen engagement through enhanced learning exchanges, cultural immersion, academic interactions, and greater youth participation.
The programme is being jointly coordinated by IIT Madras and Banaras Hindu University (BHU) Varanasi, with support from several Union Ministries, including Culture, Tourism, and Textiles, along with the Government of Uttar Pradesh. The Kashi Tamil Sangamam 4.0 will be organized around the theme Learn Tamil - Tamil Karkalam, focusing on promoting Tamil learning across India and fostering a wider appreciation for the classical linguistic and literary heritage of the country.
This year, more than one thousand four hundred (1,400) delegates from Tamil Nadu will participate under seven categories, including students, teachers, writers, media professionals, and spiritual scholars.
These delegates will undertake an eight-day experiential tour, which includes visits to Varanasi, Prayagraj, and Ayodhya, along with cultural performances, seminars, and exposure to local cuisine and heritage. Specific heritage locations in Varanasi, such as the ancestral house of Mahakavi Subramanya Bharatiyar and the Kasi Madam, will be visited.
A major initiative under KTS 4.0 is the Sage Agasthya Vehicle Expedition, scheduled to trace ancient cultural routes, starting from Tenkasi on December 2 and concluding in Kashi on December 10. This expedition will highlight civilisational linkages from various historical periods and promote awareness of classical Tamil literature and Siddha medicine.
Furthermore, fifty (50) Hindi-knowing Tamil teachers will teach Tamil to school students in Kashi under the Tamil Karkalam campaign, while three hundred (300) college students from Kashi will travel to designated institutions in Tamil Nadu for a fifteen-day Tamil learning program.
