Kolkata, 22 November (H.S.):
Leader of Opposition in the West Bengal Assembly, Suvendu Adhikari, on Saturday posted on X (formerly Twitter) and levelled serious allegations against the Trinamool Congress. He claimed that Trinamool Panchayat members Sheikh Shafirul Haque and Amjad Ali Khan openly threatened Himadri Dey, a BJP worker from booth number 216 (Gohal Sini) in Mangrul area of the Chandrakona Assembly constituency in Arambagh organizational district. Adhikari also shared an audio clip of the incident on his X account.
Adhikari said that Himadri Dey's only fault was that she filled out the SIR form. Instead, she was not only abused but even her home's cable TV connection was cut.
Suvendu Adhikari said that the SIR process is underway in several other states across the country, but nowhere has such a chaotic situation occurred. According to him, the SIR is a normal process that the Election Commission implements on a regular basis.
He accused Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee of opposing the SIR from the beginning and inciting the public with misinformation.
Adhikari stated in the post that fake Bangladeshi and Rohingya illegal voters have started leaving the state since the SIR process began, causing resentment within the Trinamool Congress.
He alleged that Mamata Banerjee has remained in power so far thanks to these illegal voters.
The Leader of the Opposition warned TMC workers, Stay away from such politics of threats and pressure, otherwise the situation may turn against you. At that time, even your leader or party will not stand by you.
He said that the people of West Bengal are welcoming the SIR process, and this is why the Trinamool leadership is nervous.
There was no official response from the police and administration on this allegation at the time of writing.
