New Delhi/Johanessburg, 22 November (H.S.): Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his British counterpart, Keir Starmer, held a wonderful meeting on the sidelines of the G20 Summit on Saturday, committing to advance the growing momentum in the India-UK partnership.
Reflecting on a year of strengthening ties, Prime Minister Modi noted that 2025 has brought new energy to the India-UK partnership, and he affirmed that both nations will keep driving it forward across many domains.
The productive discussion signals a continued commitment to the bilateral Roadmap 2030, a comprehensive framework designed to bolster the strategic partnership in areas like trade, defense, technology, and health.
The leaders' meeting follows the formal resumption of negotiations for a landmark Free Trade Agreement (FTA) in February 2025, which aims to significantly boost the current bilateral trade, with a target of reaching $100 billion by 2030.
The interaction in Johannesburg is the latest in a series of high-level engagements between the two leaders, who previously met at the G20 Summit in Brazil in November 2024. Their ongoing dialogue has been instrumental in revitalizing the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, which was further enhanced with the new India-UK Vision 2035 endorsed in July 2025.
This meeting underscores the shared commitment to deepening economic and strategic cooperation.
Prime Minister Modi is in Johannesburg for his 12th G20 summit, part of a three-day visit where he is championing inclusive growth and amplifying the voice of the Global South.
