Murder suspect shot by police after attacking constable during escape attempt

Chennai, 22 November (H.S.) : A twenty-three-year-old man, who was a suspect in a recent murder case, was shot and apprehended by the police in Chennai after he allegedly attacked a police team while attempting to escape.

The incident occurred near the Indira Nagar MRTS railway station in the early hours of Saturday morning. The suspect, identified as Vijayakumar, is a history sheeter wanted in connection with the murder of another twenty-four-year-old history sheeter named Mouli, who was fatally attacked by a gang near the Mandaveli railway station on Thursday. Vijayakumar sustained a gunshot wound to the leg during the encounter.

According to police officials, the victim, Mouli, was intercepted by the gang around eleven o'clock on Thursday morning and assaulted with weapons before the assailants fled the scene.

Although rescued by a passerby and moved to the Government Royapettah Hospital, Mouli succumbed to his injuries on Friday. Following the murder, the police arrested two other gang members, Gautham and Niranjan. Police stated that the motive appears to be rooted in a previous enmity between Mouli and Vijayakumar's gang.

During the attempt to apprehend Vijayakumar, a police constable identified as Tamilarasan suffered injuries in the attack and is currently undergoing medical treatment.

Both Vijayakumar and Mouli were residents of the Tamil Nadu Urban Habitat Development Board quarters in Mylapore, and both had multiple criminal cases registered against them.

Police confirmed that the search for the other suspects involved in the murder is ongoing.
