22 Nov (HS): A successful sensitization programme was organized at the
auditorium of the Office of the State Commissioner for Persons with
Disabilities under Section-25 of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act,
2016, focusing on health care and certification for persons with disabilities.
The Chief Guest, former IAS and Advisor to the Chief Minister, Awanish Awasthi,
emphasized the need for strengthening health services for persons with
disabilities to make them more technology-driven and accessible. He stated that
this Act is an important means to ensure rights-based justice in society and
should be made transparent and citizen-friendly.
Subject
experts including Adv. Rahul Bajaj (Supreme Court of India), Ayushmita Samal, Praveen
Prakash Ambashth (Deputy Chief Commissioner, Persons with Disabilities, Govt.
of India), and Dr. P.K. Srivastava (Balrampur Hospital) delivered detailed
sessions on updated standards of disability assessment, health-related
provisions, aspects of mental development, and required sensitivity, providing
significant technical knowledge to the participating officials.
In
the concluding session, Prof. Himanshu Shekhar Jha, State Commissioner, issued
essential instructions to simplify, expedite, and strengthen the processes of
issuing Disability Certificates and UDID Cards using e-governance systems. The
programme was attended by S. Govindaraj (Commissioner, PwD, Govt. of India),
Dr. Sandipa Srivastava (Director, Medical Treatment), Dr. Amit Kumar Rai
(Deputy Commissioner, PwD, Uttar Pradesh), Shashank Singh (Assistant
Commissioner/District Disability Empowerment Officer, Lucknow) along with a
large number of officials. Additional Directors (Medical) and Chief Medical
Officers from across the state also participated enthusiastically.
