Hyderabad, 22 November (H.S.): In a major development, 37 CPI (Maoist) members from Telangana and Chhattisgarh surrendered before Telangana DGP B Shivadhar Reddy in Hyderabad on Saturday.

Among those who surrendered are senior Maoist leaders Koyyada Sambaiah alias Azad (49) from Mulugu district and Appasi Narayana alias Ramesh (70) from Peddapalli district, both carrying a reward of Rs 20 lakh each. Another key leader, Muchaki Somada alias Erra (42), a State Committee Member in DKSZC from Chhattisgarh, also carried a reward of Rs 20 lakh.

The DGP said the surrender indicates a positive response to the government’s appeal and reflects their decision to leave extremism and return to a peaceful, law-abiding life. “They have chosen to prioritise health, family and reintegrate into society,” he said.

Seven of the 37 cadres handed over eight firearms, including an AK-47, two SLR rifles, four .303 rifles, a G3 rifle, and 346 rounds of live ammunition. Officials also handed over Rs 1.41 crore to the surrendered cadres.

According to the DGP, around 59 cadres from Telangana are still active in the CPI (Maoist). Of the eight Central Committee Members, five are residents of Telangana.

He said the Maoist organisation is witnessing a sharp decline due to sustained pressure from security forces, internal ideological differences and weakening support networks. So far, 465 Maoists have surrendered in Telangana in 2025.

The Telangana DGP appealed to all remaining Maoists to surrender through revenue officials, public representatives, media persons or relatives, assuring complete rehabilitation as per government guidelines.
