- Predicts NDA Sweep in Assamese and Tribal Seats
Margherita, 21 November (HS): Union Minister of State for External Affairs Pabitra Margherita on Thursday launched a sharp attack on the Opposition, accusing Congress and its allies of practising “selective outrage” over issues related to the Miya community.
Speaking to reporters, Margherita said Congress, it's president Gaurav Gogoi and its partners “react strongly to anyone speaking against Miya people,” while alleging that certain Opposition leaders remain silent on sensitive matters. He further claimed that Akhil Gogoi and Lurinjyoti Gogoi avoid taking clear positions on what he termed “Miya aggression,” which, according to him, raises concerns.
Margherita also alleged that Akhil Gogoi “indulges in unbecoming conduct” and accused Lurinjyoti Gogoi of “misbehaving with journalists” when questioned on Miya-related issues. He said the Opposition’s politics revolves around “appeasement,” whereas BJP workers and the government “engage with the public daily through their work.”
The minister stated that in Assam’s 25–27 Muslim-majority constituencies, the NDA will face a direct contest with Congress and its allies. However, he asserted that in nearly 105 Assamese and tribal-majority seats, the NDA is poised for a “resounding victory,” citing previous electoral trends.
Margherita made these remarks during a media interaction here on Friday.
