
Srinagar, 21 November (H.S.): Jammu and Kashmir Police dismissed circulating social media posts regarding the accidental blast at Police Station Nowgam, calling them misleading and basedh on unfounded speculation.
In a statement, police said that several unverified posts and claims regarding the incident have been shared online, which are “efforts to mislead the public.”
The statement reiterated that the blast on November 14, 2025, occurred accidentally during the process of collecting samples from a large cache of recovered explosives. The procedure was being carried out by experts from the Forensic Science Laboratory when the incident took place, it reads.
Police further informed that the Government of Jammu & Kashmir has already constituted a high-level committee on November 16 to probe the incident. The committee is headed by the Principal Secretary, Home Department, and includes the Inspector General of Police Kashmir Zone, District Magistrate Srinagar, and a senior scientist from the Central Forensic Science Laboratory, Government of India, it added.
The police appealed to the public to avoid spreading unverified information and rely only on official updates regarding the matter.
