Lucknow, 21 Nov (HS): Yogesh Shukla, a BJP MLA
from Lucknow's Bakshi Ka Talab constituency, stated on Friday that he protested
at the Mahigawan police station after saying that police sought a payment to
return a recovered cell phone. According to authorities, a sub-inspector and a
constable were assigned to lines late Thursday night following a protest.
Shukla stated that a resident of the Mahigawan
neighborhood had misplaced his cell phone.
On Wednesday, the guy received a call from the police station informing
him that his phone had been retrieved.
When he arrived at the station, a police officer reportedly asked him a
payment of Rs 2,000 to return it. The MLA stated that he acted when the man
sought him for assistance and asked the staff to hand up the gadget. When the guy returned, the policeman
allegedly intimidated him and denied possessing the phone.
Shukla further claimed that police were issuing
challans arbitrarily to fulfill objectives, even when motorists possessed legal
documentation. Citing numerous charges of corruption, the MLA and his
supporters marched to the police station on Thursday evening to protest. Local neighbors also gathered, and some
yelled anti-police chants.
DCP Gopal Krishan Chaudhary met with the MLA and
assured him of the appropriate steps, following which the situation was brought
under control. Chaudhary subsequently stated that Sub-Inspector Dhirendra Rai
and Constable Pappu Kushwaha, who were suspected of seeking money for returning
the phone, had been taken to the police station awaiting an investigation.
