Delhi, 21 November (H.S.): The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday launched a scathing attack on the Congress party, condemning its decision to award the Indira Gandhi Prize to former Chilean President Michelle Bachelet and accusing the opposition of having anti-India sentiments embedded in its DNA.

At a press conference held at the party headquarters, BJP National Spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia voiced strong objections to the selection of Bachelet for the 'Indira Gandhi Prize for Peace, Disarmament and Development 2024,' which was presented in a ceremony attended by senior Congress leader Sonia Gandhi.

Bhatia argued that the Congress now operates like a Maoist organization.Bhatia critically questioned Bachelet's credentials, referencing her tenure as the former UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, during which he claimed she repeatedly attacked India's sovereignty.

He highlighted her criticism of the abrogation of Article 370 and her statements on alleged human rights violations in Kashmir at the 42nd session of the Human Rights Council.

The BJP spokesperson also pointed out that Bachelet, despite not being an Indian citizen, had filed a petition against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), claiming it violated human rights. Bhatia pointedly asked, Was this done at the behest of Sonia and Rahul Gandhi? He further asserted, This is not the first time Rahul Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi, and the Congress party have been seen standing with anti-India and international forces.

Escalating his criticism, Bhatia declared that the available evidence suggests deceit flows in the veins of the so-called Gandhi family. He stated that the modern Congress is not the party of Mahatma Gandhi but one that aligns with anti-national forces and glorifies wrongdoers by appointing them to ministerial and parliamentary positions.
