
Ambikapur, 20 November (H.S.): President Droupadi Murmu on Thursday described tribal culture as incredibly rich and beautiful, and emphasized the need for its greater promotion. She was speaking at the Janjatiya Gaurav Divas (Tribal Pride Day) celebrations in Ambikapur, the district headquarters of Surguja in Chhattisgarh.
President Murmu noted that Chhattisgarh has completed 25 years of its establishment, a journey in which the tribal community has played a crucial role. After paying floral tributes to a statue of Bhagwan Birsa Munda, she remarked that it was an honor to participate in the historic event. She highlighted the centuries-old cultural and familial ties between Chhattisgarh, Odisha, and Jharkhand, stating that these roti aur beti (social and marital) bonds have significantly strengthened the tribal traditions in these states.
The President expressed special gratitude for how the tribal societies in these regions have preserved their heritage.Stating that she herself comes from a tribal community, President Murmu said she has always embraced her culture and continues to live it with the same pride today. She felt a deep sense of kinship meeting tribal families, especially women, at such gatherings.
The President stressed that cultural preservation must be given equal priority alongside education, health, access to water, forests, and land to ensure the tribal society can progress with strength.
