
Mumbai, 20 Nov (HS): Mumbai’s Customs Department Officer
Sagar Omprakash Meena was held for smuggling Scotch worth Rs 19.50 lakh. The
liquor being transported in a car was held in Navi Mumbai.
The Customs Officials on Thursday told that based on
information about illegal sale of liquor in Navi Mumbai. The liquor was to be
served to the passengers in international flights. The officials checked the
car belonging to Sagar Meena and found 15 bottles of high quality Scotch being
transported without paying the import duty.
More sealed bottles were also found at Sagar’s
residence, who had no permit to store these bottles. Sagar was posted at Mumbai’s
International Airport. The imported liquor bottles are stored in a ‘Bond’ room and
served to passengers in international flights by the Catering Department
workers. Meena in collision with the workers at the Catering Department
smuggled the bottles.
Liquor worth Rs 19.50 lakh and the car were seized. An
offence under the Maharashtra Prohibition Act 1947 has been registered, Further
investigation is in progress.
