
Delhi, 20 November (H.S.): The Chief of the Naval Staff, Admiral Dinesh K. Tripathi, held a series of high-level discussions with senior U.S. Navy and defense officials during an official visit to the United States, aimed at significantly strengthening maritime cooperation between the two nations.
The talks, held from November 12 to 17, focused on enhancing collaboration in key areas such as intelligence sharing, joint innovation, technology transfer, and interoperability in response to evolving maritime security challenges.
Strategic Engagements
During his tour, Admiral Tripathi met with several top officials, including Secretary of the Navy John C. Phelan and Under Secretary of War for Policy Elbridge Colby. He also held pivotal meetings with Vice Admiral Yvette Davids, Deputy Chief of Naval Operations for Plans and Strategy, and Rear Admiral Raymond P. Owens, Director of the Navy International Programs Office.
A key visit was to the National Defense University (NDU) in Fort McNair, where Admiral Tripathi engaged with NDU President Vice Admiral Peter A. Garvin. Discussions centered on professional military education, strengthening links between the defense forces' higher learning institutions, and training exchanges for international fellows and military professors.
Operational and Technological Cooperation
The visit underscored the commitment to enhancing operational synergy between the two navies . Admiral Tripathi's high-level engagements at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam included meetings with Admiral Stephen T. Koehler, Commander of the U.S. Pacific Fleet, and Lieutenant General James F. Glynn, Commander of U.S. Marine Forces Pacific. These talks focused on strengthening maritime security, expanding operational engagements, and ensuring a secure, stable, and rules-based order in the Indo-Pacific.
Reflecting the focus on technology and interoperability, the Navy Chief toured the state-of-the-art Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer, the USS Daniel Inouye. He was briefed on the destroyer's latest modifications, multi-mission versatility, and advanced maritime surveillance systems.
Additionally, Admiral Tripathi visited the Center for Excellence in Disaster Management and Humanitarian Assistance (CFE-DMHA), where he was briefed on the center's vision for regional cooperation and capacity building.The visit has opened new avenues for collaboration, reinforcing the shared commitment of India and the U.S. to address regional security dynamics and maintain stability across the Indo-Pacific.
