Kamrup (Assam), 20 November (HS): In a major crackdown on cattle smuggling, Hajo Police conducted a late-night operation near the Shaniyadi petrol pump on Wednesday late night. The operation was led by Inspector Rupam Hazarika of Hajo Police Station.
During the raid, police seized 28 smuggled cattle being transported towards Meghalaya. The consignment was being carried in three vehicles, all of which were intercepted and confiscated. The vehicles bearing registration numbers AS 01 SC-3799, AS 01 MC-7102, and AS 15 AC-8779 were taken into custody.
Police also detained five individuals in connection with the smuggling attempt. Preliminary investigation suggests the involvement of two suspected cattle mafia operators — Mazdia and Kukarpaar resident Mafiz Bhuyan and one Muku Ali.
Hajo Police have intensified their efforts to curb illegal cattle trafficking in the region. Further investigation is underway.
