Sonitpur (Assam), 20 November (HS): In a significant development, five residents of Dhowakata village under Naduar in Sonitpur district have been declared foreigners by Foreigners’ Tribunal No. 2. The district authorities confirmed that the individuals — Fatema Bibi, Monowara Begum, Hanufa Begum, Mariyam Nessa and Amzad Ali — were identified as foreigners in separate Foreign Tribunal cases numbered 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9 of 2025.

Authorities informed on Thursday that According to the order issued by Sonitpur Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate Anand Kumar Das, the tribunal declared that their presence in Assam and India is detrimental to public interest and internal security. Acting under the Immigrant Expulsion from Assam Act, 1950, the DC directed them to leave Assam and India within 24 hours through Dhubri, Sreebhumi, South Salmara or Mankachar routes.

The cases originated from a reference made by the Border Police in 2006. Authorities stated that action will be taken as per law if the individuals fail to comply with the expulsion order.
