Kolkata, 20 November (H.S.): Amid the ongoing SIR process in the West Bengal, incidents of illegal immigrants returning from India to Bangladesh are being reported. Similar incidents have been witnessed in border areas. Against this backdrop, BJP leader Dilip Ghosh made a controversial statement on Thursday, saying that the BSF should open all checkpoints with Bangladesh.
Speaking to reporters in the morning, Dilip Ghosh said that SIR is being conducted across the country, but there are no problems anywhere. People are dying only in Bengal.
He further said, I would say that the BSF should open all our checkpoints with Bangladesh. Those who are going to Bangladesh should be left there, but they should not be allowed to return. This is an opportunity to reduce Bengal's population by 10-20 lakh.
Notably, since the inception of the SIR, alleged Bangladeshi citizens have been observed returning to their country in several border areas. Such incidents have been particularly reported at the Savarupnagar border. Given this situation, Dilip Ghosh's statement has become politically significant and a topic of discussion.
