Guwahati, 20 November (HS): Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday said that the State government is taking concrete steps toward building a safer and more accountable Assam by strengthening police responsibility and transparency.

In a statement on social media, the Chief Minister said that through the Assam Police (Amendment) Bill, 2025, the government has prepared a framework to introduce necessary reforms in the State-level Police Accountability Commission and District Police Accountability Authorities. These changes aim to enhance efficiency, responsiveness, and public trust in the policing system.

Dr. Sarma added that the initiative marks a “major system upgrade” for the frontline police personnel who work tirelessly to ensure the safety of the people. He said the reforms will empower the force and streamline mechanisms of accountability, ultimately contributing to a stronger law-and-order environment across Assam.--------
