Kolkata, 2 November (H.S.): The issue of illegal infiltration in West Bengal has once again sparked a political controversy. Former BJP state president and Union Minister Dr. Sukanta Majumdar has leveled serious allegations against Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and the state police administration. In a post on his Twitter handle on Sunday, he wrote that despite repeated written complaints against two Bangladeshi infiltrators in the Banshihari police station area of South Dinajpur district, the police are not taking any action.
Dr. Majumdar claimed that the complainant submitted Bangladeshi identity cards and concrete evidence of the two accused to the police, yet the state police remain inactive. He alleged that this police attitude is due to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's clear instructions that no action should be taken against any illegal infiltrators.
The Union Minister wrote, Even when the security of the country's genuine citizens and internal order are at stake, Mamata Banerjee's government is solely focused on securing the votes of illegal immigrants. He alleged that illegal immigrants are Mamata Banerjee's preferred vote bank.
Dr. Majumdar's statement has once again reignited a controversy in state politics over the issue of infiltration and citizenship. So far, there has been no official response from the state government or police administration to these allegations.
