Addressing media persons at Police Post Chinnore today, SP Jammu Rural, Brijesh Kumar Sharma said that one Ashok Koul of Durga Nagar lodged a written complaint at Police Post Chinnore last month, reporting a theft of 20 tolas gold and Rs 6 lakh cash from his residence when they were not home.
Accordingly, he said, an FIR under the relevant sections of the law was registered at Police Station Domana and investigation started.
During the course of investigation, the SP Rural said, the investigating team led by incharge Police Post Chinnore, Arjun Singh, under the supervision of SHO Domana, Varuneshwar Singh, and SDPO Mudassar Hussain, detained several suspects and also analysed the CCTV footage of the area to finally arrest one Deepak Kumar from Channi area.
During sustained questioning, the arrested individual confessed to his involvement in the crime and on his disclosure, one gold bracelet, 2 gold rings and Rs 4.84 lakh in cash was recovered from his possession, the police officer said.
He said it also came to the fore that the accused had committed similar thefts in different areas under the jurisdiction of Police Stations Bishnah, Channi, and Trikuta Nagar.
“The custody of the accused will be handed over to the SHOs of these Police Stations later to further investigate into the other theft cases,” the SP Rural, Brijesh Kumar Sharma said.
Asked about recovery of only Rs 4.84 lakh and three gold items against 20 tolas and Rs 6 lakh initially reported in the Durga Nagar theft case, the police officer said, “The owner found rest of the gold and cash from his residence only.”
“However, we are further investigating into the matter to ensure that all his belongings are traced and handed over to him,” he said.
Meanwhile, the SP Rural requested people to install CCTV cameras outside their residences to ensure that similar theft incidents could be prevented.
