Chennai, 2 November (H.S.) : Air Force Stations at Tambaram and Avadi, located on the outskirts of Chennai, along with stations in Thanjavur and Sulur near Coimbatore, participated in the nationwide “Sekhon India Air Force Marathon” on Sunday.

The event was held as part of the 93rd Air Force Day celebrations under the theme: Run–Soar–Inspire. The marathon was organised to promote physical fitness, camaraderie, and national pride among a diverse group of participants.

The event offered three categories: the 21 km half marathon, 10 km run, and 5 km fun run and walk. At Air Force Station Tambaram, the event was flagged off by Air Commodore Tapan Sharma, Air Officer Commanding, and saw the enthusiastic participation of 787 people, including air warriors, their families, personnel from sister services, paramilitary forces, and civilians. Similarly, at Avadi, Air Commodore Pradeep Sharma inaugurated the marathon and later felicitated the winners.

The marathon was held in solemn commemoration of the courage and sacrifice of Flying Officer Nirmal Jit Singh Sekhon, Param Vir Chakra (PVC). He is the only Indian Air Force officer to have been awarded India's highest military honour for gallantry, which he received posthumously for his extraordinary bravery during the 1971 Indo-Pak war.
