
New Delhi, 19 November (H.S.): President Droupadi Murmu on Wednesday stated that premier technical institutions like the National Institutes of Technology (NITs) can make a significant contribution to the creation of ideal digital villages across the country. She emphasized that these institutes can ensure technological access in rural areas by developing simple solutions, imparting digital skills, and accelerating the development of better facilities through industry collaboration.
The President was addressing the fifth convocation ceremony of NIT Delhi. She noted that the Digital India campaign has successfully democratized technology, opening up countless new opportunities. She added that the government is continuously working to expand high-speed internet, digital services, and modern tech facilities to rural areas to ensure equal opportunities for every citizen.
Praising the achievements of NIT Delhi, President Murmu remarked that the institution has established a distinct national identity in a short period. She highlighted its remarkable work in promoting modern infrastructure, academic excellence, multidisciplinary education, and research. She also commended the institute for its rapid progress in fostering innovation, industry partnerships, and skill-based learning, which prepares students for future challenges.
The President expressed her delight in learning that NIT Delhi has established a start-up center to encourage entrepreneurship among students and faculty. This center is instrumental in guiding new ideas, providing resources, and offering necessary mentorship.
Additionally, an incubation center is being set up to play a crucial role in transforming student innovations into viable business models. She expressed confidence that such initiatives will promote self-employment and empower students.
President Murmu stated that the nation is advancing swiftly towards the goal of a 'Viksit Bharat' (Developed India), a vision that encompasses not only economic growth but also inclusive development, environmental protection, and technological progress.
Citing initiatives like Digital India, Make in India, Start-up India, Skill India, Sugamya Bharat Abhiyan, and Unnat Bharat Abhiyan, she asserted that public participation will enable India to achieve its goals quickly.
Advising students to be lifelong learners, pursue research, and make innovation a part of their lives, the President said, The true measure of progress is its positive impact on society. She urged that whether they develop sustainable energy systems, create accessible technology, or design solutions for rural and underserved communities, their work should aim to reduce inequalities and inspire hope in people's lives.
President Murmu expressed her firm belief that the students of NIT Delhi will bring pride to their institution and the nation with their contributions.
