Malda, 1 November (H.S.): The 99th birth anniversary of ABA Ghani Khan Choudhury, a senior Congress leader and the architect of Malda, was celebrated with reverence and respect in Malda district of West Bengal on Saturday. Leaders from various political parties across the district paid tribute to him on the occasion.

Congress MP Isha Khan Choudhury paid tribute to the late leader by offering floral tributes to his portrait at his ancestral residence in Englishbazar Kotwali on Saturday morning. She then visited his samadhi (ceremonial memorial) and paid her respects.

On this occasion, MP Isha Khan Choudhury said, Through his work for the people, Ghani Khan Choudhury became everyone's 'Barkat Saheb'. His birthday is a day of joy not only for our family, but for the entire Malda district.

Meanwhile, the Englishbazar Municipality also celebrated Ghani Khan Choudhury's birth anniversary. Municipal Chairman Krishnendu Narayan Choudhary and Chairman-in-Council Shubhmoy Basu remembered the Congress leader by garlanding his statue, at Vrindavani ground in the city.

Krishnendu Narayan Choudhary said, Barkat Da's dream was to work for the people. Even though he was born in Salar, Murshidabad, he proved himself to be a true son of Malda.
