Jalpaiguri, 9 October (H.S.): A criminal escaped with jewellery from a jewellery shop in broad daylight in a crowded market, causing a sensation in the area. The incident occurred around 11:30 a.m. on Thursday in Bhutkihat, Rajganj block in Jalpaiguri district.
As per information, gold merchant Sudhir Rai used to take jewellery home in a bag after closing his shop every day. He would then retrieve the bag when he opened it in the morning. Today, the merchant came to open his shop again, left the bag inside, and went to get water nearby. Returning a few minutes later, he found the bag and jewellery missing. The police from Rajganj police station arrived at the scene on information. After examining CCTV footage from the area, they began searching for the culprit. The criminal escaped with jewellery worth approximately ₹2.5 lakh. The jewellery shop owner Sudhir Rai is in shock after the incident.
