Guwahati, 09 October (HS):
In a major crackdown on corruption, the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption, Assam, on Thursday arrested a health department official from Nagon district for accepting a bribe.
According to the official information, a complaint was received against Shravan Kumar Bora, District Programme Manager (DPM) at the Office of the Joint Director of Health Services, Nagon. The complainant alleged that Bora had demanded ₹20,000 as a bribe for processing his pending arrears of Performance-Based Incentive (PBI).
Unwilling to pay the bribe, the complainant approached the Directorate, which swiftly laid a trap. On Thursday, a team from the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Directorate apprehended Shravan Kumar Bora near the Office of the Joint Director of Health Services, Nagon, immediately after he accepted ₹10,000 — part of the demanded bribe — from the complainant.
The tainted money was recovered from his possession and seized in the presence of independent witnesses. Upon finding sufficient evidence, Bora was arrested by the Vigilance team.
A case has been registered at the ACB Police Station (Case No. 55/2025, dated 09/10/2025) under Section 7(a) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 (as amended in 2018).
Further legal proceedings are underway.
