Kathmandu, October 5 (HS): Nepal has been devastated by a series of natural disasters over the past two days, with floods, landslides, lightning strikes, and road accidents killing at least 40 people and injuring 13 others nationwide.According to Armed Police Force (APF) spokesperson Shailendra Thapa, the worst-hit area is Ilam district, where floods and landslides have claimed 28 lives and left two people critically injured.

Eleven people are reported missing in disaster-related incidents.In Ilam, fatalities were recorded across several local bodies: five deaths in Suryodaya Municipality, six in Ilam Municipality, two in Deumai Municipality, one in Fakfokthum Rural Municipality, three in Mangsebung Rural Municipality, eight in Maijogmai Rural Municipality, and three in Sandakpur Rural Municipality.

Thapa further confirmed casualties in other districts: two deaths in Udayapur, three in Rautahat, four in Rasuwa, and one in Kathmandu. Lightning strikes injured eight people in the districts of Khotang, Bhojpur, Rautahat, and Makwanpur.

In Panchthar district, a separate landslide-triggered road accident resulted in six deaths and left six others injured.

Authorities have deployed rescue teams to the affected regions, as many areas remain cut off due to road blockages and damaged infrastructure, while continuous rainfall hampers relief operations.
