New Delhi, October 5 (HS): The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has nominated prominent industrialist Rajinder Gupta as its candidate for the upcoming Rajya Sabha by-election from Punjab. The announcement was made on Sunday by the party’s Political Affairs Committee (PAC).

Gupta, Chairman of the Trident Group, recently resigned from two key positions — Vice-Chairman of the Punjab State Economic Policy and Planning Board and Chairman of the Kali Devi Temple Advisory Committee — ahead of his nomination.

The Rajya Sabha seat fell vacant following the resignation of AAP MP Sanjeev Arora, who recently won the Ludhiana West Assembly by-election. Arora’s Rajya Sabha tenure was due to run until April 9, 2028, but he vacated the seat to take up his responsibilities in the Punjab Legislative Assembly.

According to the Election Commission of India, polling for the seat will be held on October 24. The notification will be issued on October 6, with the last date for filing nominations set for October 13.

Candidates will be allowed to withdraw their nominations until October 16.
