Howrah, 4 October (H.S.): A 32-year-old man's blood-soaked body was recovered from the courtyard of a temple in Shalap Battala area under Domjur police station in Howrah district on Friday night. The deceased has been identified as Kalu Manjhi, a local resident.
According to local sources, Kalu Manjhi lived alone in the area and worked in nearby shops and factories. He often slept at the nearby Hanuman temple. Late Friday night, he was in the temple courtyard when locals discovered him lying in a pool of blood. Blood was scattered around the temple premises.
Domjur police station was immediately informed of the incident. The police arrived at the scene and sent the dead body for post-mortem. According to police sources, the body was bleeding from the ears and back of the head. Preliminary investigations suggest that Kalu Manjhi may have been murdered and may have been struck on the head with a heavy object.
However, it is not yet clear who or what individuals are involved in this incident. The police are investigating every possible angle.
The police said that the exact cause of death will be determined only after receiving the post-mortem report.
