Siliguri, 4 October (H.S.).

A woman police constable was killed in a road accident while on her way to duty near Bagdogra Airport on National Highway 31 on Saturday morning.

Police sources identified the deceased as Constable Rukmery Lepcha, a resident of Pedong in Darjeeling district. She was posted at the Siliguri Metropolitan Police Lines.

According to reports, Lepcha was riding her scooter from Bagdogra to Siliguri when, due to heavy rain, her vehicle collided head-on with a four-wheeler near Bhujiyapani on the highway. The impact was so severe that she died on the spot.

Following the incident, Bagdogra police arrived at the scene, recovered the body, and sent it to North Bengal Medical College and Hospital for post-mortem examination. The driver of the four-wheeler fled after the accident, but police have seized the vehicle and launched an investigation.
