Washington, October 4(HS): The United States is weighing the issuance of a $1 coin that would feature President Donald Trump as part of planned celebrations to mark the nation’s 250th anniversary of independence in 2026, Treasury officials confirmed on Friday.

Conceptual drawings circulated by state officials on social media reveal a coin design with Trump raising a clenched fist on one side, flanked by the words “fight, fight, fight” — a phrase that became politically symbolic after the former president survived an assassination attempt last year.

The other side of the proposed coin displays a profile of Trump with the word “Liberty” above and the inscription “1776–2026” below, according to images posted by treasurer Brandon Beach. The Treasury has not yet finalized the design, but a spokesperson described the preliminary draft as a tribute to the country’s resilience and democratic spirit in the face of challenges.

The proposal comes under a 2020 law that empowers the Treasury Secretary to order the production of $1 coins in 2026 with designs linked to the semiquincentennial celebrations. In 1976, the bicentennial was similarly honored with a $1 coin featuring the Liberty Bell and the moon, drawn from a nationwide competition, while the reverse bore the image of President Dwight D. Eisenhower.

At present, further details on the Trump coin are on hold due to a prolonged federal government shutdown, which has frozen many official activities as lawmakers remain divided over a new spending bill. White House officials said they did not know whether Trump had personally seen the coin design, but expressed confidence in his approval of the tribute.

If approved, the coin would represent a historic moment: the first time a living president appears on circulating U.S. currency as part of an official commemoration.
