Tamil Nadu Launches Rs 2.5 Crore Scheme to Establish UAV Training Centres in Polytechnic Colleges

Chennai, 4 October (H.S.): Recognizing the immense demand for Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) or drones across modern industries, the Tamil Nadu Higher Education Department has announced plans to establish exclusive UAV training centres in government polytechnic colleges across the State. The initiative is designed to equip diploma students with essential skills in the rapidly expanding field of aerial technology, thereby bridging the current gap in formal training for these students within the existing 54 government polytechnic colleges.

The department has outlined a phased approach for the rollout, beginning with the selection of five government polytechnic institutions for the initial phase of development. A senior official from the Higher Education Department confirmed the financial commitment, stating, Each centre will be developed at a cost of Rs 50 lakh, with the government allocating a total of Rs 2.50 crore for this purpose. The official further emphasized that the primary objective of setting up these training centres is to empower students with deep knowledge and skills to operate drones safely, explore innovative applications, and contribute to the latest development in aerial technology.

The comprehensive training curriculum will cover various aspects of UAV operation, including flight dynamics, crucial safety protocols, and official drone rules, regulations, and ethical considerations. Furthermore, the centres will incorporate an innovation hub to encourage students to explore new ideas and undertake drone-related research projects, enhancing both theoretical knowledge and practical experience.

Experts will guide students through in-depth practical sessions on manoeuvring, drone control, and carrying out accurate aerial photography and mapping projects undertaken by industries. Beyond coursework, the centres will organize workshops, seminars, and drone building competitions, ultimately providing placement opportunities to outstanding graduates.
