Ahmedabad, October 4(HS): Team India delivered a dominant all-round performance to hammer the West Indies by an innings and 140 runs inside two and a half days in the first Test at the Narendra Modi Stadium, taking a 1-0 lead in the two-match series.After securing a massive first-innings lead of 286 runs, India declared their innings at 448 for five in reply to the visitors’ 162.
On Saturday, the Indian bowlers wrapped up the West Indies’ second innings for just 146 in 45.1 overs, sealing an emphatic victory.Ravindra Jadeja starred with both bat and ball, scoring an unbeaten 104 and claiming four wickets for 54 runs.
Pacer Mohammed Siraj provided crucial breakthroughs with 3 for 31, while left-arm spinner Kuldeep Yadav picked up 2 for 23. Jadeja’s all-round brilliance earned him the Player of the Match award.
India’s first innings was powered by three commanding centuries — Jadeja’s unbeaten ton, Dhruv Jurel’s 125, and KL Rahul’s 100 — which helped the hosts post a formidable total before declaration.
In West Indies’ second innings, Siraj set the tone early by dismissing Tagenarine Chanderpaul with a sharp short ball brilliantly caught by Nitish Reddy. Captain Shubman Gill introduced Jadeja early, and the left-arm spinner struck twice, removing John Campbell and Brandon King.
