Prayagraj, 31
Oct (HS): Selection Centre East (SCE), Prayagraj, the oldest and largest
Service Selection Centre in the country, is celebrating its Raising Day on Saturday.
Located in the holy city of Prayagraj, SCE has a rich history dating back to
1976 when the 11 Service Selection Board (SSB), the oldest SSB of the Armed
Forces, moved to Allahabad. Over the years, the Centre has grown to comprise
five boards, namely 11, 14, 18, 19, and 34 SSBs, making it the largest
Selection Centre in the country. Entering the 50th year since its
establishment, SCE has been a pivotal institution in shaping the military
leadership of the nation with the onerous responsibility of selecting the best
talent of officers for the Indian Armed Forces.
The Centre was accorded the status of Category 'A' Establishment since
May 1998, a testament to its importance and contribution to national defence.
SCE has
played a significant role in selecting more than 50% of the military leaders of
the Indian Army. It also trains the largest number of potential assessors of
Indian Armed Forces, including those of Coast Guard and Friendly Foreign
Countries. The Centre's advanced training facilities and innovative assessment
processes have enabled it to emerge as a Centre of Excellence, by functioning
on the guidelines of Enabling Candidates, Evolving Procedures, and
Empowering Assessors.
The Centre's
contribution to National defence is unparalleled. With a unique distinction of
having dedicated training and administrative infrastructure for each of its
five SSBs, the Centre ensures a 'Candidate First' approach, fostering a
transparent and efficient five-day SSB selection process. As the largest
Selection Centre, SCE has the distinction of assessing 28000 and recommending
more than 1500 candidates annually (50% of total selection of the country) for
training to become future officer leaders in the Indian Armed Forces.
SCE's
dedication to nation-building extends beyond its core function of selecting
officers. The centre has actively engaged in initiatives of varied nature,
including conduct of outreach programmes to attract youth, promoting green drive
National initiatives like 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam', and creating infra facilities
for parents and candidates to generate positivity towards the Army.
On its
Raising Day, Selection Centre East (SCE), Prayagraj, reaffirms its commitment
to selecting the best talent for the Indian Armed Forces and contributing to
the nation's defence and development. The centre's legacy of excellence and its
continued efforts towards innovation, leadership, and nation-building make it a
proud Institution of the Indian Armed Forces, informed PRO & Spokesperson, Ministry of
Defence, Prayagraj.
