Lakhimpur (Assam), 31 October (HS): Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday laid the foundation stone for several development projects in Lakhimpur, including the ₹289-crore Super Speciality Hospital and Nursing College at Lakhimpur Medical College. The event was held at the college playground, where the Chief Minister also addressed a large public gathering.

Dr Sarma also inaugurated several departments of the newly constructed 30-bed Lakhimpur Cancer Hospital. In his speech, he highlighted the vital role of nurses in cancer treatment, stating that their contribution is often more significant than that of doctors.

Speaking about the upcoming Nursing College, the Chief Minister announced that apart from B.Sc. Nursing, M.Sc. Nursing courses will also be introduced and preparations for the same are underway.

He further informed that 30 medical colleges will be established across Assam in the next four to five years, with the state government targeting the opening of two new medical colleges every year. He also mentioned that around 2,000 nurses are being appointed annually in the state.

Highlighting the upcoming Super Speciality Hospital, Dr Sarma said it will be equipped with advanced infrastructure and modern medical facilities across multiple departments. He also reiterated the government’s commitment to ensuring overall development in all sectors of the state.
