PESHAWAR, 30 October (H.S.): At least six Pakistani soldiers, including a captain, were killed on Wednesday after their convoy was ambushed in the northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province bordering Afghanistan .The attack occurred in the Sultani area of the restive Kurram tribal district when terrorists opened fire on the security convoy.

During the ensuing gunfight, an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) was detonated, leading to the casualties. The military's media wing, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), also reported that seven terrorists were killed in the engagement.Following the attack, security forces have cordoned off the area and launched a search operation to find the perpetrators.

The incident is the latest in a surge of terrorist attacks across Pakistan, particularly in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan provinces. Violence has escalated since the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) ended a ceasefire with the government in 2022, with security forces being the primary target.

The ISPR noted that just days earlier, on Sunday, security forces had successfully foiled two major infiltration attempts from Afghanistan in the same region, killing 25 militants.
