TORONTO, 30 October (H.S.): Indian squash prodigy Anahat Singh's remarkable campaign at the Canadian Open 2025 concluded in the semifinals on Wednesday after a defeat to England's top-ranked player, Gina Kennedy.
The 17-year-old was overcome in straight sets with scores of 11-5, 11-8, 12-10 in a swift 30-minute match.Prior to her semifinal loss, Singh had orchestrated two major upsets in the tournament. She impressively defeated World No. 20 Melissa Alves and later ousted defending champion Tinne Gilis to secure her spot in the final four.
Following the match, Kennedy praised her young opponent's performance throughout the week. Anahat has been incredible this week, Kennedy said.
I was just saying to my coach, she is such a natural squash player. The way she can change the direction of the ball is so unique; you can't teach that. Perhaps she was a bit fatigued from her matches throughout the week, which is understandable.
Kennedy will advance to the final to face Amina Orfi of Egypt, who defeated Amanda Sobhy of the United States in the other semifinal. It's been over a year since Amina and I have played, Kennedy remarked. She has been in excellent form recently, and I'm excited for the challenge.
