Hyderabad, 30 October (H.S.): A portion of the Hyderabad–Srisailam Highway caved in near Lattipur village in Nagarkurnool district on Thursday following incessant rains triggered by Cyclone Montha, bringing vehicular traffic to a complete standstill.
Videos circulating on social media showed a dramatic scene — the road split into two halves, leaving commuters stranded. In one clip, a man is seen attempting to leap across the collapsed section of the road amid debris and flowing water.
Authorities have rushed to the site and restoration efforts are currently underway to reconnect the vital route that links Hyderabad with the temple town of Srisailam.
IMD Issues Orange Alert
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for Telangana, warning of more heavy rainfall following Wednesday’s intense downpour in Hyderabad. A yellow alert remains in effect for October 30, with the city expected to experience moderate rain through the day.
Weather expert Telangana Weatherman cautioned that as Cyclone Montha moves inland, several northern and eastern districts — including Adilabad, Nirmal, Mancherial, Jagtial, Rajanna Sircilla, Karimnagar, Warangal, Khammam, and Nagarkurnool — are likely to witness very heavy rainfall between 80 and 180 mm.
For Hyderabad, intermittent moderate rain is expected from morning to evening.
