Delhi, 30 October (H.S.): Global markets presented a mixed picture on Thursday, reflecting varied investor sentiment following a mixed session on Wall Street. The cautious mood was influenced by U.S. Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell's remarks, which cast doubt on a potential December rate cut. This uncertainty carried over into Asian and European trading.

In the United States, markets came under pressure during the previous session after Chairman Powell expressed concern about the economic outlook. The Dow Jones Industrial Average slid 400 points from its session high. The S&P 500 index ended the day with a marginal loss of 0.30 points to close at 6,890.59. In contrast, the Nasdaq Composite saw gains, rising 130.98 points, or 0.55%, to finish at 23,958.47. However, Dow Jones Futures were showing some strength in early trading Thursday, up 0.15% to 47,709.96.

European markets also closed with mixed results in the last session. The FTSE index in London finished 0.61% higher at 9,756.14. Conversely, France's CAC index fell 0.19% to 8,200.88, and Germany's DAX index declined by 154.42 points, or 0.64%, to close at 24,124.21.

The mixed trend continued in Asia on Thursday, with trading divided across the region's major bourses. Of the nine major Asian markets, four were trading in the red.The GIFT Nifty was trading down 193.50 points, or 0.74%, at 26,061.50.Thailand's SET Composite Index slipped 0.69% to 1,306.53.Singapore's Straits Times Index registered a 0.24% loss to trade at 4,429.64.Japan's Nikkei index was down 0.13% at 51,240.

Meanwhile, five other major Asian indices were trading in positive territory.Hong Kong's Hang Seng Index was up 171.86 points, or 0.65%, at 26,518.South Korea's KOSPI Index rose 0.27% to 4,092.18.The Jakarta Composite Index climbed 0.26% to 8,187.4.The Taiwan Weighted Index jumped 0.21% to 28,354.32.The Shanghai Composite Index saw a modest gain of 0.06% to trade at 4,018.86.
